Allie, how did you get started in fitness?
I remember wanting to be a personal trainer back in the day when the only people who had trainers were celebrities. It was an outlandish thought, given the fact that I was struggling to lose weight, even though I was an athlete. Directly out of college I taught art and then Montessori. By my early thirties, I finally won my 2 decade battle with weight and embarked upon the career path I had wanted all along. In essence, I stayed with teaching, just changed careers! My own fitness transformation enables me to truly understand how to help others succeed, physically and mentally. I believe in educating my clients so they feel empowered and are able to maintain their health and fitness the rest of their lives.

Do you gravitate toward certain kinds of clients?
In my 14 years as a personal trainer, I've trained young and old, beginners to professional athletes. That being said, I relate especially well with:

  1. Women transitioning through menopause
  2. Golfers who want to stay in the game
  3. Men and women wanting to lose 10-20 lbs
  4. Aging adults who require balance training


What would you say is your favorite part of being a personal trainer?

Making a difference! And watching the positive snowball effect each clients' success has on his or her family and friends.

So, how does someone get started?
After the initial contact (cell or email), we'll set up a time to meet for an assessment. If a goal includes weight loss, I will ask that the client writes their food down so we can look at that, too. The assessment is simple! I'll look at their posture, possible muscle imbalances and core, as well as analyze their squat and teach them a perfect (and safe) squat. We'll talk about lifestyle, cardiovascular training, nutrition and mindset and then set up their first short-term goal. It's an exciting process!

"I must first tell you a little about my self. I am a male 70 years of age. I consider myself in fairly good shape. I do a fair amount of Ultra running of 50k, 50 milers, mostly trail off road. I was a personal trainer and held ACSM, Cooper Aerobic Inst., AFAA, USA Track and Field Coach Level 1 Certifications. All that was in my past and really have not done any training for the past 17 years.

I wanted to continue doing Ultra running but pushing the range to 100k and beyond. Maybe 24hour Endurance runs. I knew enough about my body that I need help getting my core and other parts in better shape than I was already in. I joined a local gym, explained to management what I was looking for and they immediately recommended Allison. She did her assessment by asking a lot of questions about my past, present and immediate goals. Allison created a very specific action plan of exercises for me and we embarked on instituting that plan. Allison not only focused her attention on me, but really made the workouts fun to a point that I looked forward to the next one. Allison is a highly motivated, knowledgeable, interactive, friendly, serious, dedicated trainer.

I had signed up for a 24 hour Endurance run and successfully completed 73.8 miles in 20hrs. . Allison helped me to put Mind, Body and Spirit together to achieve this goal.

Allie is an excellent trainer! She has the experience to design a varied workout so it never gets boring. She is super enthusiastic and encouraging and is very motivating. Allie also keeps building the intensity of the workout so progress is constant. She has a whole bunch of ideas about eating habits and other habits to help with weight loss if that is your goal too. I highly recommend Allie as a personal trainer. She is a delightful person too.
